Gloriana was built for the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee in 2012 and this gallery of photos shows every stage, from the first drawings, to the official naming ceremony with Her Majesty the Queen. It was an unprecedented success. Gloriana was built in fewer than 5 months by a team of more than 60 craftsmen and women, including young people from the Prince’s Trust who worked on the project for experience and training. See more about the story here.
Gloriana was moored at Richmond Upon Thames as the build continued, with the date of 25th April 2012 set for her to be officially presented by Lord Sterling to HM Queen Elizabeth II at Greenland Pier, Deptford. Following the short ceremony, held in pouring rain, The Royal Watermen under the helm of HM Barge Master Paul Ludwig rowed the barge down to Greenwich to salute the newly refurbished ‘Cutty Sark’ which was being reopened by HM The Queen.
